Beehive inspection record sheet

A hive note becomes more useful when it can be matched to the right apiary, hive and visit. This blank record sheet gives you a consistent place for observations without turning them into an automatic diagnosis or treatment decision.

The sheet records manual observations. It does not diagnose colonies, prescribe treatment or dosing, or replace local safety, veterinary or regulatory guidance.

How to use this resource

  1. Write the apiary and hive identifier before the visit. Use the same identifier in your photo filenames and later notes.
  2. Record what you observed, including uncertainty. “Not observed” and “not checked” should remain separate entries.
  3. Add a photo reference if you took one. Keep the file with your own records; a filename on this sheet is not a backup of the photo.
  4. Use the follow-up column for your own next step or a question for a qualified local adviser. Date a later observation as a new visit.

The downloadable CSV matches the printed table. It has no formulas and is not an app-import file. Entered browser-tool data, when offered, has its own download button.

Separate an observation from an interpretation

A concrete description preserves information better than an unexplained label. If you are unsure, say what you saw and what you did not check. Avoid filling an empty box with an assumed negative result just to complete the form.

One hive, many visits

Keep identifiers stable across the season, and note a rename or move so the record still makes sense later. A separate dated sheet for each visit can be filed under the same hive. If you use a spreadsheet, filter by both apiary and hive rather than by a short hive number alone.

This is a general-purpose personal worksheet. A local association, authority or veterinary adviser may require a different record or additional fields; retain those records separately where required.

iPhone

Beekeeper Journal

Beekeeper Journal keeps apiaries, hives, inspection notes and photos in a private iPhone journal, with user-initiated export and archive options. This CSV is a separate worksheet, not a restore archive.
