Aquarium water-test log template

A water-test result is easier to interpret later when you know which tank it came from, when it was measured and which unit the test used. This worksheet uses one row per parameter, so you can record the tests relevant to your aquarium without treating an untested parameter as zero.

This log is for recordkeeping. It does not determine safe conditions for a species, diagnose an animal, calculate treatment or replace qualified aquarium or veterinary guidance.

How to use this resource

  1. Identify the tank before recording a measurement. Keep names consistent if you maintain several aquariums.
  2. Create a row for each parameter tested and copy its result and unit from the kit or instrument.
  3. Write the kit or method in the notes when it changes. Mark an unreadable or unperformed test explicitly.
  4. Record a water change, equipment change or other event in its own dated note. Keep before-and-after readings as separate observations.

The downloadable CSV matches the printed table. It has no formulas and is not an app-import file. Entered browser-tool data, when offered, has its own download button.

Preserve the unit with the value

Temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit, or measurements reported using different chemical conventions, cannot be compared as bare numbers. Keep the unit in the same row and name the parameter precisely as the test labels it. The template does not convert measurements or supply reference ranges.

Use events to explain the timeline

A note such as “sample taken before water change” explains the order of events without claiming what caused the result. When you compare entries, check whether they use the same tank, method and units. Keep raw readings even when you later add your own summary.

The CSV is a blank manual worksheet with the same columns as this page. It contains no formulas, alerts or treatment calculations. You can add rows in a spreadsheet or print another copy when the sheet is full.

Aquarium Journal

Aquarium Journal brings aquarium measurements, inhabitants and event notes into a local iPhone journal, with user-initiated export options. This web worksheet is separate from the app’s backup format.
